Waterloo Tripel is brewed on huge amounts of pilsner malt. Aromatic Saazer and Spalter hops are added, but to no further extent than to give it a bitterness equal to a pilsener which gives more room to the beer’s sweetness. The beer is fermented with Du Bocq’s original yeast strain which is responsible for the delicate, spicy expression. After maturation and filtration the beer has a secondary fermentation in the bottle which causes its slight cloudiness.
